IA lecture... really impressed :)

Today we had our Industrial Automation lecture...(opted for this elective subject after a lot of dilemma). The lecture was for those who had missed the first few lectures. The faculty being the Dean of Academics and the person whose wrath is feared throughout the college.

I had opted this elective subject for two reasons : 1. The syllabus had really interested me 2. Wanted to try out the most dangerous and feared elective subject. (Last semester, the Instrumentation department was famous for offering the most low-scoring elective) So I thought, lets have a good challenge this semester.

The teacher had impressed me from my first lecture. Really he constantly emphasizes on "out-of-the-box" thinking. Some of his one-liners are worth noting. Right in the first lecture I realized that all what I had heard of this elective were rumours. It really grabbed my interest. Also the promptness of non-teaching staff in setting up the classroom (totally alien for CS and IT dept) impressed me a lot.

About today's lecture... This was the recap for the first few lectures that some of us had missed. The lecture started with Aims of Automation : 1. Comfort 2. Safety. The teacher elaborated on comfort and gave us very good examples of how to make the party comfortable. He asked us how we could make the class comfortable. People responded with variety of answers like audibility, visibility, air-conditioning etc... The teacher added a few more factors adding comfort. What I was observing was that besides telling us these things, these things were also taken care of ... We were made comfortable in the classroom... the lighting was perfect, the temperature optimum (i was feeling neither sleepy nor hot), the sound was audible till the last person, everything on the whiteboard could be read clearly (ironically, the whiteboard markers are refilled once in a lifetime in the CS and IT dept!!!) and everything else was perfect. This systematic and perfect environment for a lecture was totally new for a student from the class of CS or IT in our college. I was impressed. The next thing that happened made me really not believe it. As the lecture was an extra lecture and the teacher knew that the students must be really tired after the whole day, he said,"You all must be tired, have a cup of tea!". Everyone in the class had a cup of tea offered. This being entirely too much different, the sips of the hot tea were accompanied by surprised smiles that also reflected thanks...
It was not just about the comfort that we were given, but the lecture was really engaging. My concentration must have hit a new high in the lecture. The teacher compelled us to think differently and in all possible ways.
I truly feel that my choice for the elective was the right one. This really will be and enjoyable and interesting for the rest of the semester. :)
